Italian jewelry

Beautiful (and expensive) jewelry from stores over Ponte Vecchio, in Florence. They have everything there: rings, necklaces, watches, gemstones, earrings, charms and anything else you can put around you. I was surprised with the vast array of materials they use to create these jewels.

Tintin figures

For over 80 years Hergé entertained entire generations with the wonderful Tintin comics. His clean and simple drawings even received their own designation: the ligne claire style.

I visited a Tintin shop in Belgium and was amazed by the variety of products and specially by the quality of the figures. Whoever did the sculptures, they’ve managed to recreate the cartoon style in all figures. They look like they came out of the books.

Nintendo inspiration

It’s amazing how many designers get inspiration from the videogame world. In this area Nintendo is king! From kitchen accessories to toys, there are thousands of items based on Nintendo’s icons and games.

In the last few years the average age of the videogame player has increased a lot, thus most of the game inspired products are not for kids. They are candies, figures, clothing accessories and design items, usually with an oldschool touch.

I’ve always enjoyed videogames, my name is famous because of Nintendo and I really like miniatures: naturally, I have a classic Mario 64 figure on my desk!

Nikon Miniature

Posted in Product Design on March 17th, 2009 by Mario Troise – 2 Comments

How about this: a company in Japan released in 2002 a really tiny Nikon F. It’s called Glico Nikon F because the camera fits in a Glico box (a small candy box).

The model is very detailed and precise. You can even change the lens! Of course this is a miniature and not a real camera, so it doesn’t take pictures (although I think someone will eventually try to hack a sensor or another digital camera inside it).

I love miniatures, so I would like one of these for sure. And I’m not alone in this one: many readers of The Online Photographer are already in love with this camera!
